BENEFITS OF EATING BANANA
One major thing that makes me
love this fruit is its ease and convenience of eating. You literally just have
to peel it with your hands (the peel come off easily) and voila! Your banana is
ready to eat. Apart from the numerous benefits, I could get from this fruit,
Just this reason alone makes me add it to my go-to fruit list. So if you are
feeling what I’m feeling and ready to learn what this easy food can give you,
then you are on the right train let’s get to it, shall we?
- Banana helps to promote good heart health: Banana is rich in potassium and low in sodium which makes it great in managing blood pressure and maintaining a healthy heart
- Banana is a good source of vitamin B6: Vitamin B6 produces neurotransmitters in the brain which carries signals from one nerve cell to another and this supports the development of the brain and immune system. This is the reason why banana is said to make you smarter. The vitamin B6 in banana also makes banana great for pregnant women and infants. There is also some evidence that shows that vitamin B6 may help reduce symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and this makes banana great for PMS.
- Banana may help to maintain a healthy blood glucose level: The American diabetes association recommends eating banana and other fruits due to their fiber content as fiber can help lower blood sugar levels
- Banana may help aid digestion: Well ripened bananas are rich in soluble and insoluble fiber and this makes it great for digestive health. It can, therefore, help to prevent constipation, it also helps to neutralize acidity, in turn, soothes stomach ulcer and heartburn
- Banana may help aid weight loss: There is no scientific evidence that shows how banana helps with weight loss, what can be said is that banana is low in calories, rich in fiber, and also filled with nutrients. So eating a banana would fill you up without having to consume a lot of calories and then, reduces your appetite by keeping you full for a period of time. So consuming less then enhances the weight loss
- Banana may serve as an energy and mood booster: Banana contains an amino acid called tryptophan which when combined with the vitamin B6 in the banana helps in producing serotonin. Serotonin is a type of chemical produced in the body that helps to relay signals such as mood, memory, appetite from one area of the brain to another and this makes banana a great meal for post workouts. It is also known as the happy fruit because this serotonin produced in the body when banana is eaten helps to uplift mood.
Banana is a great fruit but when
consumed in excess it gives the opposite effect of its benefits such as the digestive problem, constipation, and abdominal pain. To get the best results
from banana, it is advisable to take it when ripe and also in moderation because
as the saying goes too much of everything is bad. This should not just be with
banana but with everything we do and most importantly on our journey of staying
healthy.
