WHY YOU SHOULD BE EATING CUCUMBER
I would like to start this
article by telling you guys how much I love love cucumber. They are literally
one of the most stress-free fruits ever. They are easy to eat, have this mild
bland taste that is not harsh in the mouth, so crunchy and refreshing
especially when cold. I have still not seen a reason not to love this wonderful
fruit and I think I can definitely call it my best fruit. So, if you are not following
me on this cucumber train or you are feeling skeptical about joining this
family here are some reason why you should;
- They are rich in so many nutrients. Cucumbers are a good source of potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, calcium, vitamin C and vitamin K
- They help you stay hydrated. Cucumbers contain about 95% of water. Taking cucumber may help you reach your recommended daily water intake. This also depends on the serving size of the cucumber but a medium-sized cucumber would definitely give you a significant amount of the recommended daily water intake
- They help to prevent constipation. The high-water content and fiber in cucumber makes it great in preventing constipation and kidney stones
- Cucumber is great for the skin. Cucumber helps to prevent wrinkles on the skin and this can be said to be due to the cooling and rejuvenating properties. They are also rich in vitamin C, niacin, riboflavin, and these vitamins are great for healthy glowing skin. This is one of the reasons why cucumber is seen as ingredients in so many beauty products
- They are rich in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory effects. Research has shown that inflammation in the body can lead to various health problems such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory rich food can help in preventing the occurrence of these health problems.
- They may help with bone strength. Vitamin K helps to prevent blood clots, it also helps to improve calcium absorption in the body and calcium helps to build strong bones so, the presence of vitamin K and calcium in cucumber makes it great for the bones.
- They may help protect heart health. Cucumber is rich in potassium and potassium help to lower blood pressure so, this is great for the heart.
- They may help aid weight loss. Cucumber is low in calories, have no fat and are high in fiber. One thing we need to know is that there is no food that is directly responsible for weight loss. The weight loss concept works when we consume low calorie, fiber-rich food which when eaten, keeps you feeling full without eating much. So then consuming less then promotes weight loss. Most fruits and vegetables are low calorie and fiber-rich food.
- They can serve as a great mid-day snack. Apart from it being nutritious, it can be munched on during that time of the day when we just feel like eating something and since they are so crunchy, they can serve the purpose of a mid-day snack.
Cucumber is a great fruit. And a
more reason why I would love this fruit is because of how versatile it can be. There
are so many dishes, and drinks that cucumber can be easily incorporated into. So,
I hope with these few points of mine I have been able to convince you that you
are slacking if you are not eating cucumber (lol) and let’s SAY YES TO STAYING
HEALTHY!!
